Abnormal warmth to stick around heading into next week
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Mild and dry conditions continue the rest of this weekend and into next week.
Flood Advisory
The National Weather Service issued a Flood Advisory that is in effect until 8 PM Sunday for the Roaring Fork River and Fryingpan River from Snowmass Canyon through the town of Basalt and downstream to the confluence with the Colorado River. This is because of an ice jam in the river, and it can cause water levels and flow to increase rapidly. The warmer weather this weekend could cause the ice jam to break and cause minor flooding downstream. Flooding could occur in Carbondale, Basalt, Snowmass, Snowmass Village, Emma, and El Jebel. It is best to avoid the river in the meantime.
Mild and Dry
High pressure will stick around this coming week and keep Western Colorado mild and dry. High temperatures will be about 10 degrees above normal with highs in the low to mid 50s Sunday and Monday, then very slight cooling to the upper 40s to mid 50s Tuesday and Wednesday. From there, low to mid 50s with upper 50s possible in some spots by next weekend. Morning lows will be in the low to upper 20s.
First 60 Degree Day
Our first 60 degree day of the year is potentially not far away. The earliest 60 degree day of the year on record since 1893 for the Grand Junction area is January 8, 1956, while the latest is March 29, 2023. The average is February 28, so we could hit that mark next month. Some areas in Western Colorado could get close to that value by next weekend or possibly hit it.
Our Next 24 Hours
This evening will be mostly clear with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s around 7 PM, then low to mid 30s around 9 PM. Sunday will be mostly sunny with morning lows of about 26 degrees in Grand Junction, 21 degrees in Montrose, 22 degrees in Delta, 19 degrees in Cortez, and 26 degrees in Moab. Temperatures will increase to the low to mid 40s around noon. Afternoon highs will be about 53 degrees in Grand Junction, 51 degrees in Montrose, 55 degrees in Delta, 54 degrees in Cortez, and 54 degrees in Moab.
