GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - For people who suffer a recent orthopedic injury and aren’t sure whether to head to the emergency room, Intermountain Health Rocky Mountain Orthopedics offers a new convenient same-day option: RAPID Ortho Service.

RAPID stands for Rapid Access to Precision Injury Diagnosis. Led by a team of orthopedic specialists, the service is designed for common injuries such as sprains, strains, fractures, and sports-related injuries—providing patients with faster access to orthopedic expertise without an urgent care visit or long ER wait.

The clinic treats adults and children dealing with painful or swollen joints, falls, and suspected broken bones. The service includes on-site X-ray imaging, as well as casting and splinting, allowing many patients to be evaluated and treated in a single visit. In some cases where surgery is needed, the team says patients may be scheduled as soon as the next day.

Doctors emphasize that the emergency room is still the right choice for serious injuries and medical emergencies, such as open fractures, head injuries or concussions, facial trauma, amputations, chest pain, or trouble breathing.

No appointment is required. Patients can call ahead for same-day scheduling or walk in Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Grand Junction.
