‘They’re Not the Cops’: Good Samaritan saves couple from being scammed out of thousands

(InvestigateTV) — Bitcoin ATMs are popping up in grocery stores, gas stations, and even restaurants in communities nationwide.

These ATMs are a legitimate way to convert cash into cryptocurrency, but they’re also being used to steal big money from innocent victims.

The FTC reports that in 2023, losses to scams involving Bitcoin ATMs topped $110 millio,n and the agency says older people are getting roped in the most.

In Nebraska, an elderly couple nearly lost thousands after responding to a text from someone posing as a U.S. marshal.

Reporter Mike McKnight walks us through the scam and shows us how a total stranger turned the tables on the con artist.
